It can be easy to have a goal set in mind, but figuring out how to get there can be a much harder task. A personal trainer will help you define your fitness goals and will create a realistic plan to help you get there. While you may have a rough idea of some goals you want to set, a trainer will help break these down into smaller goals that are specific and realistic. They will take into account your fitness level, dietary requirements and lifestyle to create a plan that is bespoke to you. Your trainer will continuously assess your progress, and it is their number one goal to see results!
One of the most crucial parts of training is making sure your form and posture are correct when performing exercises. A lot of the time, we are not even aware when we are not performing an exercise correctly. Each person’s posture is different. The angle your legs are at when doing a squat can make all the difference. If you are not performing the exercise correctly, not only will you not get the results you want but you are at risk of injuring yourself. A personal trainer will teach you the correct way to perform each exercise movement in your routine.
Motivation and Variety
The start of a workout routine is always great, you can see the goals in your mind and will do anything to achieve them. A few weeks in, you could start to lose motivation. You may have had a bad week, or perhaps are getting bored of your routine. A personal trainer will make sure this never happens. They will teach you new exercises to keep things different and interesting. They are also there to give you words of encouragement throughout to keep you pumped and keep your goals in front of your mind at all times. Even if you don’t use a personal trainer every time you work out, knowing you will meet them soon will motivate you.
Making the most of it
A personal trainer will make sure you get the most out of your workout in the time you have. Perhaps you can only fit in half an hour each session? Your trainer will make sure that half an hour really counts and will help you get the best results.
There are lots of personal trainers available each with different specialities. How do you know which is the right personal trainer for you?
Make sure your trainer has experience, especially in relation to your goals. For example, if you’re a bodybuilder, you want someone knowledgeable in that area.
It’s important to have a good relationship with your trainer. You should feel comfortable with them, and be able to tell them anything that relates to your fitness goals and ability to exercise. You should feel like your trainer is working with you to achieve your goals, and that your trainer is listening to what you have to say. Some other points to consider are:
Arrange a consultation with a personal trainer to discuss your goals. Ask them about their achievements and see if they have achieved anything similar to what your goals are. Think about what exercises you enjoy the most. Perhaps you want someone with a bit of boxing experience?
Consistency is key when working with a personal trainer, so it is good to enquire about his or her schedule. If you can only train in the evenings, you want to make sure that your personal trainer will be available when you are.
Don’t forget we offer all new members a FREE personal training taster session. This is the perfect chance to meet up with a trainer for an introduction and some free advice!
Here are some questions to consider when arranging a consultation with a Personal Trainer:
1 – How many days per week do I need to work out?
Depending on your fitness goals, you will need a certain amount of commitment to achieve realistic results.
2 – What should I eat?
As part of your training program you will need to make sure you are eating the right foods to get the best results. Your personal trainer will be able to help you with a diet plan. Be sure to mention any specific dietary requirements or allergies you have.
3 – What are your fees?
The most important question we all ask ourselves – what will it cost! Some personal trainers will do you a package if you buy a certain amount of sessions. If you cannot afford frequent sessions, even one session a week will be extremely beneficial.
4 – When are you available?
Make sure your personal trainer can work around your schedule and will be available at the same times you are.
5 – What if I need to cancel?
It is important to check how much notice to give your trainer if you can’t make a session or need to rearrange.
